- Look at a decent summary of what is available and the prices, and figure out how much I want to spend and what I will get for the money, then see what products in that range are from brands I prefer, then do a few searches to find the lowest prices on that specific part, then if I need a few items try and get them from no more than two retailers to save on shipping costs.
Do you have a preference as to who you would buy from?
- I tend to stick to Aria, Ebuyer, Novatech these days, Amazon for some stuff, but I would consider any company that is priced right, has accurate stock reports and ships the same or next day. I have bought uber-cheap generic electronic stuff off ebay from Hong Kong recently and it all seems to be reasonable stuff and vastly lower prices for the same quality, eg. a generic Nikon charger and 2 batteries for half the UK cost.
Are you looking for the best price or a company that will get you your goods with little hassle?
- Usually price, but having stock and shipping quickly is important.
Do you find yourself steering away from high street shops in order to either save money or because it is more convenient to shop online?
- Both really, I rarely feel the need to see the item I'm buying, I find that sales staff rarely know their products and (in the case of consumer electronics) are more interested in pushing what will get them the most commission.
If a new company opened up that was offering relatively competitive prices and offered deals such as free shipping and guaranteed next day delivery, Payment options such as debit and credit card possibly even paypal, would you be willing to make an order?
- I would weight up the options really, free delivery will often make a big difference when buying one item, Amazon offer this for £18+ and it usually swings a decision towards them. I haven't had to return an item in a long time so I can't really comment how that would affect me.
If you decided to go with another company, what would be the incentive for you to try this new company?
- Anything resulting from the combination of the points made above really :p
Unlike some online mail order companies, you would be able to take your order number to a collection office and pickup your items same day, would this interest you?
- Possibly, the only things I always buy locally are hard drives to reduce the chances of damage. I rarely need things urgently but will buy locally (Novatech) if the price is lower or not much more.
When shopping online, What IT items do you buy regularly?
- Nothing regularly as such, but the usual PC parts every now and then, and items for an upgrade
Are you a Mac user or Windows user?
- Windows mainly
- Finding the best possible price from a reputable online company.
Do you have a preference as to who you would buy from?
- Major online retailers like Amazon.com, Buy.com, Dell, etc. Have had bad experiences with smaller online retailers.
Are you looking for the best price or a company that will get you your goods with little hassle?
- Get my goods with less hassle
Do you find yourself steering away from high street shops in order to either save money or because it is more convenient to shop online?
- More to save money, but also because it is more convenient to shop online at time.
If a new company opened up that was offering relatively competitive prices and offered deals such as free shipping and guaranteed next day delivery, Payment options such as debit and credit card possibly even paypal, would you be willing to make an order?
- Yes, I would be willing to give the company a shot if there is enough savings over major online retailers and don’t need the product(s) by a particular date (just in case there is a problem).
If you decided to go with another company, what would be the incentive for you to try this new company?
- Matching and/or beating competitive prices with great shipping options and/or picking up online orders in store.
Unlike some online mail order companies, you would be able to take your order number to a collection office and pickup your items same day, would this interest you?
- Yes, because if there was a problem with the product it can be exchanged or returned with far less hassle than most mail order companies. Also provides getting the product faster without paying for expensive overnight shipping.
Returns and replacement items could also be handled this way even if the item was initially ordered online.
- Agreed, read above.
